Cusco Peru

The city of Cusco is located in the department of the same name and is at a height of 3350 metres above sea level.

Cusco and the surrounding area is rich with history and archeology, especially from the Inca empire and also from Spanish colonial times.

It is now of partucular importance as Machu Picchu has become one of the new seven wonders of the world and almost all tourists will pass through Cusco, whether through the airport or overland.

A train goes from Cusco to Machu Picchu where these ancient and amazing ruins can be seen.

Other notable inca ruins and inca settlements include Pisac, Sacsaywaman and Ollantaytambo. 

Cusco caters well for national and international tourists with a variety of qualities of hotels, hostals and restaurants to suit all budgets.
